Aspen Community Foundation Benefits from the New Aspen Monopoly

This month, Aspen will be put on the map—literally. Already known for its brand-name cachet, Aspen becomes legendary in the game world with the release of an official new game Aspen Monopoly. The traditional, beloved board game has been “localized” to include well-known sites such as Clark’s Market, the Aspen Art Museum, Maroon Bells, Pitkin County Dry Goods and of course the four Aspen Mountains, honorifically located where the railroads traditionally were on the original gameboard. The silver playing pieces are familiar symbols as well, and include a gondola, an aspen leaf, a bear, a hiking boot and a skier.

The creators Katherine and Dane Chapin and Lisa Baker have added a charitable component to this launch–Aspen Community Foundation will receive part of the proceeds of every game sold.  Just in time for the holidays, this instant classic sells for $40 per game, and is available at local retailers, and in our offices in Basalt.  “We are delighted to partner with Aspen Community Foundation in raising both dollars and awareness for worthy charities in a fun, exciting, interactive and unique way”, said Katherine Chapin, “With every game that is purchased, a portion will go directly to ACF in support of charity. We hope our Aspen Monopoly game will be the gift that keeps on giving to ACF for years and years to come.”

This creation is the brainstorm of Katherine and Dane Chapin, part-time residents of Aspen who own the rights to the family classic from the Hasbro Toy Company. Since 1994, they have created hundreds of successful versions of the popular pastime, some in the themes of TV shows and movies such as The Walking Dead, Planet of the Apes, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who, as well as versions depicting National Parks, New York City and Las Vegas. The newest version, destined to become a local favorite.

“We appreciate being chosen as beneficiaries of this special project, which will fund our Cradle to Career Initiative” said Stefanie Davis, Philanthropy and Partnerships Director of Aspen Community Foundation, “to be associated with Aspen, families and fun is a gift to us!”
