Thanks to everyone who attended “Coming Together for Our Youth: A Forum to Challenge the Status Quo” on August 15 at the Hotel Jerome. PolicyLink President Dr. Michael McAfee kicked off the event by asking the audience of philanthropic and nonprofit leaders to think differently about their work.
He challenged us to decide: Do we have the heart to do what needs to be done? Can we be radically imaginative? Can we embrace discomfort? Can we be both disruptive and respectful? Are we prepared to do the hard work required to make our community equitable and just?
Thanks to our outstanding panelists from Yampah Valley Mountain High School, Valley Settlement, and Preschool on Wheels who shared their stories. We also extend our gratitude to John S. Bennett and the philanthropy panel participants who spoke so passionately about their nontraditional approaches to supporting social change. Finally, our thanks to Jamie Van Leeuwen, senior advisor to Governor Hickenlooper, and Colorado Department of Human Services executive director Reggie Bicha for valuable state-level policy insights and perspectives.
